Pestana Amsterdam Riverside

Amsterdam, Netherlands ·2024

Photographing the Pestana Amsterdam Riverside was a rare privilege: portraying a National Monument reborn. Before this pair of nineteenth-century neo-Renaissance buildings — the former Town Hall of Nieuwer-Amstel and the City Archive — I set out to capture the grandeur of the façade reflected in the canal at dusk, with the clock tower outlined against the Amsterdam sky.

I devoted myself to documenting the delicate contrast between historic memory and contemporary design: the restored high ceilings, the rooms with clean lines in neutral tones and velvet, and the striking glass-roofed restaurant that opens the hotel to the city light. I worked throughout with the natural light of Northern Europe, letting each space reveal its own atmosphere.

I completed the series with food photography, where I pursued the same rigour I had given the architecture: generous brunches, careful plating and the house’s cocktails. The result is a faithful portrait of this five-star hotel beside the De Pijp district, where more than one hundred and thirty years of history meet the comfort of luxury hospitality on the banks of the Amstel.
