Pestana Porto – A Brasileira

Porto, Portugal ·2026

Photographing the Pestana Porto – A Brasileira meant diving into one of the city’s most iconic addresses. Built upon the legendary A Brasileira coffee house — opened in 1903, the first in Porto to serve coffee by the cup — this five-star hotel unites more than a century of Porto’s memory with contemporary comfort. I devoted myself to capturing that dialogue between the historic café, with its ornate ceilings, marble columns and unmistakable mosaic flooring, and the serene elegance of the hotel’s spaces.

I sought to reveal the soul of this building in the heart of Porto, just steps from Avenida dos Aliados. I photographed the warm-toned rooms, the meeting rooms, the lounges and the design details that honour the heritage of the place, always mindful of the light entering through the windows and shaping the mood of each space. I wanted every image to convey the feeling of inhabiting a living piece of the city’s history.

I completed the series with the gastronomy and the panoramas that crown the experience: the pastry and the carefully composed dishes, served in the setting of the old café, and the views over Porto’s rooftops at dusk. It was a project in which I aimed to honour the symbolic weight of A Brasileira without losing its warm hospitality — and I hope these photographs invite those who see them to discover this meeting of coffee, history and city.
